Theo Mittet is a Certified SoulCollage® Facilitator (CSCF). His SoulCollage® work emphasizes the intuitively creative and psychologically inspired responses that the SoulCollage® process engenders. His particular emphasis is to beckon a heightened state of listening. It is through our listening that SoulCollage® cards are able to speak their truth.
WHAT IS SOULCOLLAGE®?
SoulCollage® is an experiential visual process which involves the creation of collaged images on individual 5”x 8” mat board cards, called SoulCollage® cards. The cards are then asked questions to which they answer. Creating and listening to SoulCollage® cards deepens awareness through visual imaging, imagination and intuition by invoking one’s spiritual, creative and psychological aspects.
WHY SOULCOLLAGE®?
Because SoulCollage® is an inclusive practice which can be undertaken in a group or solitary setting. Because SoulCollage® stimulates reflection, introspection, creativity and discussion. Because SoulCollage® often brings forth a highly inter-active exploration of who we are and of the contribution we can make to ourselves and to others.
SoulCollage®, while art, goes beyond the creation of art: it is both relaxing and stimulating; it is easy, intuitive, tactile, visual, revealing, transformative and empowering. There are no special requirements that would exclude anyone from participating in the SoulCollage® process and there are few materials needed.
Making SoulCollage® cards is fun and requires no talent or artistic training. People who enter the world of SoulCollage® tend to bond with each other. They often make SoulCollage® a lifelong practice which enhances their ability to go inward by listening to the art they have created.
SoulCollage® cards can be enlarged as color copies suitable for framing and wall mounting for all to see. An exhibition of SoulCollage® cards is a beautiful, enjoyable and safe way to celebrate and share personal insights in community!
HOW IS SOULCOLLAGE® PRACTICED?
SoulCollage® can be taught to individuals or in a group setting. The cards are created by cutting picture images out of magazines, organizing and then gluing them onto 8” x 5” pre-cut boards. The images that are selected and the way they arrange themselves on the boards is a totally intuitive process of free association. SoulCollage® is a way of approaching the subconscious and bringing it into the light. Visual imaging is primitive compared to rational thought. Through subconscious visual imaging one creates SoulCollage® cards which reveal our “soul pattern” through the symbols that we have created. Then, when asked questions, the cards speak their truth to us through our listening.
HOW IS SOULCOLLAGE® ORGANIZED?
SoulCollage® cards are organized under two basic headings:
1) Source (or transpersonal) Card, and
2) Suit (or netter) Cards.
1. Source Card: The Source Card is a single “stand alone” card which represents “The Oneness Beyond Dimension” or “The Oneness of All Things". This is a silent card which does not have a voice. It signifies the unifying principle which combines the Suit Cards into one. Think of the Source Card as the entire quilt or fabric and Suit Cards as the component parts of the whole.
2. Suit Cards: The Suit Cards are the individual identities within the quilt or fabric which is always growing and changing as the Suit Cards speak to us. There are four categories of Suit Cards. Each SoulCollage® Card that one creates is assigned to a respective suit category below.
a) The Committee Suit: The Committee Suit cards represent our psychological dimension (our sub- personalities or inner parts). They are the first “suit” in the SoulCollage® deck of cards. They are card images of invisible players or actors in the drama of our lives who direct us without our knowledge. They can be negative (the critic, the hurt child, the procrastinator, etc.), or neutral (the caregiver, the worker, the teacher, the organizer, etc.). Others defy value (the controller, the eternal child, the general, the herder, etc.), and still others reside in our shadow (the blamer, the frightened one, the bully, the helpless one, etc.).
Naming and knowing our committee members through card listening helps us to better understand those parts of ourselves. By listening to what they have to say, we can have fun while getting to know our psychological dimension better.
b.) The Community Suit: The Community Suit cards represent the communal dimension. They are the second suit in the SoulCollage® deck of cards. They are card images of friends, co-workers, family members, pets, teachers, ancestors, spiritual leaders, famous people – even groups. The Community Suit may include dead or alive people or pets that one knows or does not know, that one likes or does not like. What is important is that we honor their special energy. By listening to what they have to say, we can inspire and be inspired by what these people, pets or spirits represent to our lives, what we feel toward and from them and why and how we choose to honor them.
c) The Companion Suit: The Companion Suit cards represent the energetic dimension. They are the third suit in the SoulCollage® deck of cards. They are card images of the seven energy centers or “chakras,” each represented by an animal guide image. There will be seven animal guide cards in this suit, one card for each of the seven energy centers. The Companion Suit is more abstract than the first two suits. It is in this suit that the Committee and Communal Suits are woven into our “Larger Story” in past, present, and future tense. By creating only one animal guide card for each chakra, we can explore and communicate with our chakra animals as mystical or spiritual beings. These beings reside within us and influence our material life, sensuality, personal power, heart energy, creativity, intuition, and spirituality in ways which we may come to better understand.
d) The Council Suit: The Council Suit cards represent the archival dimension. They are the fourth and final suit in the SoulCollage® deck of cards. The Council of Archetypes brings the SoulCollage® process to perhaps its most mysterious aspect. The goal here is to identify and make cards for “universal metaphors” (which can best be described by images rather than words). Sample archetypes might include: the witch, the fool, the savior, the warrior, the sage, etc. The selection of these archetypal images takes place outside of the logical mind, by a process of unconscious attraction. Similar themes may reappear in selection of images until aspects of an archetypal figure appear... something which attracts or repels us, grips or guides us or which we intuitively know is calling. Like the companion suits, the council suit is part of our “Larger Story” in past, present, and future tense.
